A South-Western independent housebuilder Backhouse has appointed former Barratt Regional Operations Director, Richard Gregory as a Non-Executive Director.

Boasting over 16 years experience at the national developer Barratt’s, Richard oversaw technical, commercial and construction functions across the firms’ four divisions delivering approximately 2,300 units per year.

Prior to his regional role, Richard was the Managing Director of Barratt Bristol, where he helped to exponentially grow the firm and take production to over 650 units per year, collecting an array of accreditations along the way.

During this spell, Richard’s Bristol division won five NHBC Regional Awards and gained the region a 5-star rating with the Home Builders Federation every year since the awards’ inception.

Commenting on his appointment, Richard said: “It is very exciting to be involved with a high growth, high potential business like Backhouse, which has a genuine commitment to increasing the quality of design and construction in UK housing.

“The business has a strong vision and huge potential, and I look forward to working with them to establish a market-leading SME housebuilder.”

In Richard’s Non-Executive role at Backhouse, his main focus will involve advising on the firm’s operational strategy and guide its implementation.

The appointment of Richard is a key part of the business’s overall growth strategy and allows the Bath-headquartered firm to bolster its ability to deliver new homes.

Theo Backhouse, Founder of Backhouse, said: “We are delighted to welcome Richard to the board. He is a proven leader in our industry and brings with him a wealth of expertise and strategic insight. His appointment demonstrates Backhouse’s continued focus on being a leading independent housebuilder and delivering the best in new homes to the UK market.

“Our mission is to challenge the industry and offer greater choice for new buyers by bringing architecture back into housebuilding and delivering outstanding new homes. The appointment of Richard to our board demonstrates our ongoing commitment to operational excellence across the business and will bolster our ability to deliver that vision at scale.”
